Getting Your Food
LOOKING FOR GOOD FRUITS & VEGETABLES?
You may also find some international spices and other goodies, too!
A good, inexpensive choice for produce is Monterey Produce (see address and map below). This is across the street from Safeway, the largest grocery store in the area, but the produce and fruit here is generally much less expensive than anywhere else - especially cheaper than the Farmers Market.
We cannot express how great this place is -- it is truly a high point for many students who find it. Between Monterey Produce with its incredible prices, and Safeway with its choices, it is well worth paying for the bus if you need it to get there. Some roomates (after our recent shoping trip) have decided to take turns, trading off, with one or the other going each week with a house list.
LOOKING FOR other ETHNIC FOODS?
Here are some suggestions. If you find others, please let us know at Talk To Us so that we can add to this list as well!
Note, the links associated with each store will lead you to a map for each specific one.
BUSES? All the stores in Seaside can generally be reached by bus route #10 or 11. The Marina stores can be reached by bus 2X (also Walmart). For more on buses, go to our page for Monterey Buses.

Favorite Places to Eat
WANT TO CREATE A LIST OF FAVORITE ETHNIC RESTAURANTS?
You find them and let us know through Talk To Us, and we'll post them for others to enjoy! Meanwhile, check out these really great choices:
Chinese (Oriental)
Grand China Buffet
1732 Fremont Seaside -- really good, very good price, and all you can eat!
Well worth the trip. For reference, it's right next to Kragen Auto parking lot. P.S.: The Chinatown Buffet near Trader Joe's is no comparison at all.

Jim's Restaurant -- Yes, it is very authentic!
1584 Del Monte Ave., Seaside, just before the intersection with Broadway Ave. Actually, this is a very popular place for local Asians as well. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall, and the tables are really jammed in tight. You won't get a lot of privacy for that special intimate date :), but you will have a blast. With friendly people all around, and great food, it's lots of fun.

Indian
Ambrosia Indian Bistro
Yes, this is the one you keep hearing about around campus. Check it out. It's a great atmosphere with great food.

Thai
Baan Thai Restaurant
There are several Thai restaurants around the peninsula, but this happens to be one favorite shared with this site -- and by more than one person, and by people who have tried other places as well.
