Monterey Salinas Transit ( MST ) Ride a Bus With Confidence
The bus system in Monterey is operated by Monterey Salinas Transit (MST). There are two primary bus termination locations. One is the Monterey Transit Plaza (Triangle), located across from Trader Joes in Monterey. The other is at the Edgewater Shopping Center in Sand City. This is where you will find Costco, Target, Circuit City, Savemart Foods, and many others. The following is the link to a PDF file for the map of the bus routes on the Monterey Peninsula. Feel free to download it to your own computer for future use. RG_Monterey Map.pdf. Typically, buses run about every 15 minutes (for the more popular routes, and excluding Sundays -- though they do still run on Sundays, but not as often). Buses either initiate directly from the Monterey Plaza Center, or the Edgewater Center. A bus ride costs $2.00 exactly, each way. You must have the exact change. (Also note, there is usually no value in getting a monthly pass. They are equal to using the bus twice a day for 31 days.) If you need to change buses to get to a place your first bus does not go, there is no fee; just ask the driver for a transfer pass. SCHEDULES: The following is a link to the schedules, by route number. Once you find them on the map, this will be of assistance. Note that each schedule has two parts. One is moving out of Monterey (or Edgewater). The other is heading toward Monterey (or Edgewater). The timings do not represent every stop, only certain ones used to keep the route flowing on a predictable schedule. http://www.mst.org/routes/list.htm. Hopefully, this information will help you. Once you have an idea of where places are, you should do fine. For starters, see our ISI navigation links to Getting Used Furniture (second hand stores), and Ethnic Foods & Restaurants.
