Monterey Salinas Transit ( MST )
The bus system in Monterey is operated by Monterey Salinas Transit (MST). There are two primary bus termination locations. One is actually in town, Monterey Transit Plaza (Triangle), located across from Trader Joes. The other is at the Edgewater Shopping Center in Sand City. This is where you will find Costco, Target, Savemart Foods, Ross Dress for Less, Marshalls and many others.

Typically, buses run about every 15 minutes for the more popular routes. On Sundays and holidays they don’t run as often. Buses either initiate directly from the Monterey Plaza Center, or the Edgewater Center, and then branch out from there to the communities. A bus ride costs $2.50 each way. You must have the exact change. There is a monthly pass that can save money, but only if you use it often enough. Check with MIIS Student Services about this.
If you want to go shopping at Edgewater Shopping Center, you may find taking buses from Monterey which travel on Del Monte Ave will get there faster than busses that travel on Fremont Street.

Once you find where you are going on the ap, the color-coded routes should be easy to understand. Note: Each schedule has two parts, going out from Monterey & coming back to Monterey. The timings do not represent every stop, only certain ones used to keep the route flowing on a predictable schedule. Getting to Salinas and to San Francisco
You can get to Salinas using Monterey Salinas Transit -- see their website.
MST does not go to San Francisco but it does go to San Jose (route 55). There, you can transfer to bus or train to San Francisco. You can also get to San Francisco (or to Salinas to get the train) by taking an Amtrak bus directly from Monterey which leaves from Pearl Street, right across from the bus transit triangle..
To get to & from the San Francisco or San Jose Airport, you will want to take the Monterey Airbus Shuttle.
